Georgia Health Initiative Headquarters
About
The Georgia Health Initiative (GHI) has relocated its headquarters to the 1075 Peachtree Street building in Midtown, Atlanta, GA. This 5,375 GSF suite on the 36th floor boasts breathtaking views of Piedmont Park. GHI envisioned a warm and inviting office space that fosters collaboration, in line with its mission to advance health equity.
Mission Statement: As a nonprofit private foundation with a mission to advance health equity, we focus on inspiring and promoting action that changes systems. Through relationships, we are building a community of solution-seekers who are coming together to co-create different systems in Georgia, systems that work for all of us.
Project Overview: In September 2024, the Georgia Health Initiative’s new office space was unveiled, featuring a colorful abstraction of GHI’s “spark” logo. The design concept at the onset of the project was to provide a warm and inviting atmosphere to “spark an idea” and collaborate.
Design Features:
Central Collaborative Spaces: The previous tenant’s layout consisted of private offices along the entire exterior perimeter, blocking the stunning views of Midtown. Menefee Architecture proposed a reconfiguration, demolishing select offices to relocate the main lobby/lounge, conference rooms, wellness room, and open workstations along the window walls. This change leaves only five private offices and allows everyone to enjoy natural light and views. Collaborative areas float in the center with break and focus rooms closer to the building core.
Flexible Conference / Seminar: To accommodate larger events, a Modernfold operable glass partition with high acoustic performance was installed, opening the conference room into the central collaborative lounge space. Mobile seating and rectangular tables can be configured to suit group sizes ranging from 10 to 50. Mobile audio/visual systems support these spaces and floor boxes and wall ports are located strategically to provide technology flexibility throughout.
Innovative Finishes and Furnishings: finishes and furniture include acoustic ceiling clouds, a patterned block wall that combines filing storage with visual privacy, and low-maintenance exposed ceilings and polished concrete floors in collaborative and circulation areas. Concealed doors to coat closets and a large storage room are integrated behind fluted panels that match the rest of the wall.
Sustainable Design and Energy Efficiency: The project retained five existing offices and the ceiling grids, upgrading them with better-performing acoustic tiles and LED light fixtures. Existing glass sliding door systems were preserved, and two sliding door systems from demolished offices were salvaged for two new focus rooms. Exposed ceilings feature a mix of new and existing mechanical equipment and ductwork. The existing kitchen location was maintained to avoid moving plumbing pipes, with new cabinets designed around it and an expanded layout. Old fluorescent lights were replaced with dimmable LED fixtures, and all appliances are Energy Star rated.
